Tesla hosted a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) workshop for the Texas Electric Reliability Commission (ERCOT).
Tesla designed a demonstration test that 64 Tesla Powerwall battery owners took to power the grid as a whole. The demonstration demonstrated that there were no technical obstacles for the owner to supply power to the Texas grid.
The core issue, Tesla noted, is that Texas needs to mobilize all available, affordable, dispatchable power capacity/resources to address grid reliability challenges.
Distributed energy is crucial here as an integrated dispatching system provides a long-term solution for grid reliability.
Tesla organizes its energy storage customers to work directly with ERCOT to leverage Tesla's converging-build capabilities for the grid and to set the parameters needed for VPP performance against ERCOT's operating and scheduling rules.
