Westinghouse will supply fuel assemblies for the Czech nuclear power plant

Westinghouse signed an agreement with č EZ to supply the fuel assemblies for the Temelin Nuclear Power Station (NPP). Westinghouse will begin delivery of fuel assemblies in 2024, fully replacing current suppliers over an estimated 15-year period. Six Westinghouse lead fuel assemblies have been operational at Temelin 1 since April 2019.

The company will provide a modified Robust Westinghouse Fuel assembly (RWFA) compatible with non-Westinghouse fuels during the plant's supplier transition. The RWFA design uses innovative materials to improve fuel economy and has demonstrated excellent performance and reliability in Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

Bohdan Zronek, č EZ Board member and Director of Nuclear Energy, explained: "We have chosen the best offer for both security and price in terms of delivery. "Our goal is to minimize any risk to fuel supply from any cause."

"We commend č EZ for their decision to diversify their nuclear fuel supply," said Tarik Choho, President of Westinghouse Fuels. Westinghouse is the only company other than the original equipment manufacturer with a mature fuel design for the VVER plant. We look forward to working with č EZ and building on our partnership to supply fuel to Temelin and Dukovany in the near future.
